"The fourth-grade science fair was a landmark moment in my design career. My entry, a display on the Apollo moon missions, cried out for special lighting. I rigged up a coffee-can light box, copying the wiring from a metal flashlight. It turns out that using metal as a conductor is fine when you're dealing with a couple of batteries, but 120 volts through a coffee can. now that's a lesson that sticks with you for a lifetime!"
